Obviously there’s been some big changes around here. We still have a few glitches at the moment but we’ll be cleaning them up over the next 24 hours. The blog’s been completely revamped, the content has been re-arranged, two new blogs have been created, and some content has be moved to those blogs. It’s all just the start of a new phase in operations around here.
I’ll explain exactly what’s changed and how the new blogs work.
Change Number One: Topic-Focused Content
The biggest change is that the Blackdragon Blog will now be 100% focused on 3 areas:
1. Dating skills for men
2. Nonmonogamous relationship skills for men
3. The Alpha Male lifestyle
That’s it. There will be no other topics discussed here from now on.
Any other posts I’ve ever made here outside of those topic areas have been moved to one of the other two blogs I’ll describe in a minute. From this day forward, all new blog posts here will only be regarding one of the above three topic areas. (If you’ve been paying attention lately, I already made that change a few weeks ago. Now the change is “official”.)
Why am I doing this?
I want this blog to be focused. I don’t want to confuse the audience by posting things about movies or politics or business. However! I know from my email and from my site analytics that many of you like reading about those other guy-topics. Not to worry, I’ve taken care of you too. I’ve set up (or in one case, revamped) two other blogs just for you. More on this in a minute.
Change Number Two – My Identity No Longer Separate
Let’s get this out of the way first. As many of you already know, my real name is Caleb Jones and I live in Portland, Oregon, USA.
Here’s me, post-weight-loss:
Nice to meet you.
I never actually kept my identity a secret. I’ve been public with my real identity on the forums for quite a while now, it’s been common knowledge for a lot of readers, and I’ve always signed my Blackdragon emails with my real name. I did keep my real identity separate from the Blackdragon stuff for marketing and branding reasons.
This is because I’ve always had two separate and very different audiences:
First, there are the people who know me as Blackdragon, seduction community/manosphere guy. These guys want to talk about dating, relationships, and related Alpha Male topics.
Then, there are the people who know me as Caleb Jones, business consultant, writer, and speaker. These folks want to talk about business, money, and time management.
Are there some people who overlap into both audiences? You bet there are. And I love you guys.
However, the reality is that not everyone who wants to talk about business also wants to talk about how to have sex with women as fast as possible, and not everyone who wants to talk about online dating wants to talk about improving profitability or emerging markets. So up until now, I’ve kept these two identifies separate. It was a business decision that made sense at the time.
Now, for several reasons, the biggest of which is the upcoming Alpha Male book, I have now changed this structure from “completely separate” to “separate, but under the same umbrella”.
On this blog and the manosphere, I will continue to be Blackdragon. On my business and personal sites, I will be Caleb Jones. Yet both identities will be linked under the same Alpha Male lifestyle “umbrella”, since everything I talk about on all topics shares the same core message: how men in the modern era can live a more free and happy life.
You cannot be truly free and happy in the long-term if you are getting lots of sex but have little or no money, nor can you be truly happy if you have lots of money but are married and monogamous to an angry shrew you haven’t had sex with in months. The Alpha Male 2.0 lifestyle is the answer to both of these problems. Too many men out there are focusing on one area while completely ignoring (or even scoffing at) the other. Both are key.
Change Number Three – Two New Blogs
As I mentioned, there are two other blogs I will be regularly posting on.
Historically I would post two articles per week on the Blackdragon Blog, and one or two articles a month at my old time management blog, formerly called Time Effectiveness. I have now completely revamped that site into a business, productivity, and time management blog called Sublime Your Time.
At SYT I will be posting articles every week, just like I will continue to do at the Blackdragon Blog. If you have any interest in making more money, starting or improving your own business or career, or managing your time better, head on over to SYT right here. It’s written by me, a self-made businessman and professional business consultant with over 20 years of in-the-trenches business experience having worked with over 300 companies in numerous industries all over the world.
The BD blog covers dating and relationships, SYT covers money and business.
I also wanted to keep posting about other fun miscellaneous guy stuff. Things like movie reviews, book reviews, politics, travel, economics, adventure, and other random guy stuff somewhat related to, but not exactly fitting into the hardcore technique category. Plus, much of you have clearly told me you still want these things from me.
This necessitated a third blog. It has a very creative name: The Caleb Jones Blog. At the CJ Blog I’m posting whatever the hell I feel like. Unlike the BD and SYT blogs, the CJ Blog has no set format. Sometimes I will post long articles there (book reviews, movie reviews, essays, advice, events from my unusual life, etc), and sometimes I’ll make tiny posts that are just a few sentences long. It’s nice to actually have a free-form blog that follows no format, unlike the article-based system I use for the BD and SYT blogs. The CJ blog is a place where I can throw down whatever I want, whenever I want. I’ve been writing posts sporadically for several weeks now and I’ve had a lot of fun with it. Check it out right here.
Change Number Four – Updated Blog Structure and Glossary
I have gone through all the BD blog pages, including the glossary, and updated everything. I have also changed some of the nomenclature I use to make it more accurate, as well as to make it match more seamlessly with the upcoming Alpha Male book. Feel free to take a look here.
The biggest change with the terms I use is instead of using the terms “Needy Alpha” vs. “Alpha” or “Real Alpha” which confused a lot of people, I have switched “Needy Alpha” with the term Alpha Male 1.0, and the “Real Alpha” or typical “Alpha” I usually talk about to Alpha Male 2.0.
So Needy Alpha = Alpha Male 1.0. I explain the difference between the two Alpha types here.
We have also restructured the blog to make it more readable, more easily navigated, less like a cheap freebie WordPress site, and less confusing and overwhelming for new readers. Whether or not we have succeeded is yet to be seen; as always, I let the marketplace (you) tell me what it likes and does not like (based on feedback and traffic) and over time adjust accordingly.
We’re going to start dumping a ton of traffic to this blog and it needed to be ready for it. Now that the blogs are all done being revamped, I can now focus on getting the Alpha Male book published and in your hands. More on this Q&A section below.
That’s it! Those are the changes. I know it’s a lot of changes all at once. The good news is going forward you’re going to get more content from me that is more focused. Win / win, baby.
Questions and Answers
Please at least scan through the below questions before you ask me any questions in the comments, since it’s very likely one of the questions below will answer it for you.
Here are the answers to most of the big questions I’m anticipating from these changes, including questions some of you have already asked me.
Why did you decide to be more open about your identity now?
1. I think people need to take ownership of what they say, stand by what they say, and be proud of what they say. I stand by what I say (because I’m right) and I’m happy to be publicly associated with it.
2. As longtime readers know, I’ve lost a lot of weight, addressed my thinning hair, and have improved my appearance greatly over the last 2-3 years. This made me feel a little better about having corny photos of me plastered all over my web sites.
3. Studies and my personal experience have both clearly shown that there is a big boost in trust when someone is open about who they are, using their real name and real photos. I’m running a business here, and if being open about my real identity will help me make more money and spread the word about the concepts I discuss, I’m all for it.
4. When I start marketing the upcoming Alpha Male book, I’m going to have to do it in a very public way. I’m getting a head start on this now to alleviate my workload later. Marketing the book was the impetus for these changes in the first place.
5. It always felt strange to me to be talking about being an Alpha Male, being confident and outcome independent, yet not talking about my real identity. That never really sat well with me. Now, problem solved.
6. One of the biggest problems in the manosphere (and seduction community and related groups) is that too many guys are too scared shitless to reveal themselves. Guys are really, really worried about this. It’s silly. It’s cowardly. It’s not Alpha. I don’t see very many of those rabid feminists or Disney beta males hiding who they are, so we shouldn’t either. It is my honest hope that I can serve as an example for other “name” guys in the community/manosphere to also come out of the shadows and open up about who they are. The more men who come forward, the more mainstream we can make these concepts, which should be the goal here.
7. All the women I date, everyone in my family, and all of my business clients already know I’m Blackdragon, and virtually none of them care. Most people would be shocked to find out how much people don’t care about what you do for a living (even though Blackdragon is only a small percentage of my regular income, since I run two other businesses). Most people you personally know live screwed up, stressed out lives, and they’re way too busy worried about themselves, believe me.
8. Will I get some haters? Of course. But I get those anyway, and the great thing about haters is they always boost traffic and ebook sales, which makes me happy. And I’ll repeat the same prediction I made over a year ago: the exact same guys who called me a pussy because I never posted photos of myself are now going to call me a narcissist now that I do. It’s going to happen…just watch. Every audience in every topic area has an perpetually angry 5% who will hate you no matter what you do. It’s normal.
When is the Alpha Male book coming out?
Alright, here’s the deal. At the moment I’m under contract, which means I’m legally and ethically forbidden to give you too much information. However I’ll summarize what I can.
The book is written. It has been for a quite a while. It’s now going through edits. The typical “real” published book goes through about seven or eight different revisions, and we’re currently going through that process. It’s not like an ebook where I can write it, edit it myself, have someone proofread it, then make it public. The Alpha Male book is a real book, a very important book, and it’s being treated as such. It is my opus. It is the single most important thing I have ever written, and I’ve been writing consistently for 20 years.
However that’s not even why there’s been a delay. Long story short, the route I took to get it published ran into some serious problems last year that had nothing to do with me and were completely outside of my control. (Welcome to the world of traditional publishing.) Again, I’m under contract, so I can’t be more specific than that.
The good news is that this contract expires soon. (I can’t tell you exactly when.) Then the handcuffs will be off and I will be publishing the book using a different method. It will still be marketed and distributed the same way as originally planned.
Now that these blogs are all done and the contract is soon to expire, I am really, REALLY excited to finally get this book out into the marketplace. It’s my biggest project for 2014. Stay tuned.
You now have a new set of links on your page to other Manosphere sites. Can you add my blog to the list?
Maybe, maybe not. Email me. Generally I’m open to doing that provided A) you’re not posting crap, B) you link back to me, and C) it’s very clear from your blog that you’ve been around a long time and are clearly here to stay. If your blog is less than 18 months old and/or you don’t update it religiously, I suggest you give it a little more time before you ask me.
Why the hell did you add <so-and-so> to your links? He sucks!
Get this through your head: Just because a manosphere site is listed on my links does not mean I 100% agree with everything said on that site. I’m confused as to why this is so difficult for certain people to understand.
I strongly agree and strongly disagree with various guys in the manosphere, including the ones listed. Regardless of some of the things I disagree with, I believe that on the overall the manosphere is a good thing that helps men and I’m doing my part to make sure it gets more exposure.
I thought you said you were fat and bald. You actually look pretty good in these pictures.
Thank you! And I said I was overweight (not “fat”), and had thinning hair (not “bald”) and I was. Anyone who says otherwise is misquoting me.
I was quite chubby. I’ve lost weight so now I’m just typical American chubby. At 5’11” I weighed 250 pounds (of fat) back in early 2011. I’ve lost about 40 pounds since then, and gained a little muscle in my arms, chest, and shoulders. (Once I lose a little more weight I will be posting before and after photos so you can see exactly how heavy I was.)
Moreover I told the photographer to make me look as hot and skinny as possible for those photos, and he used all the right shadows and “MySpace angles”. And my skin has been touched up a little, etc.
Also, I discussed in detail on this very blog, I had a procedure done to addresses my thinning hair about two years ago.
As I’ve talked about before on this blog, I hope to serve as an example how important it is for a man to improve and maintain a decent level of physical appearance, especially if you’re over age 35, if you want to live the Alpha Male lifestyle. And as always, my weight loss is a very long work in progress. I still have at least another 20-25 pounds of chub to lose before I consider myself in a normal healthy range.
How often will you be posting to all these blogs?
BD Blog – 2 articles per week.
SYT – 1-2 articles per week.
CJ Blog – Often. A few times a week, whenever I feel like it. But remember these blog posts will often be much smaller than my usual full-blown articles.
I will be providing regular content at all three blogs. This has all been part of my master plan all along, to further ensure my income is location independent (which is one of the core requirements of the Alpha Male 2.0!).
If I’m a current subscriber to the Blackdragon Blog, am I still a subscriber to the new one?
All current subscribers have been maintained as far as I know. I will be confirming this over the next 24 hours.
Will all the old links from the old blog still be maintained?
Yes. All links to the old BD Blog (at the old addresses of blackdragonblog.wordpress.com and www.blackdragon-blog.com) will be maintained forever and auto-forwarded to the new blog (www.blackdragonblog.com). If you’re reading this on January 2nd, they may not all be working yet, but they will in the next 24-48 hours.
If I’m a current subscriber to the old Time Effectiveness blog, am now a subscriber to the new Sublime Your Time blog?
Yes. It’s the same blog. Just completely re-vamped like this one.
If I’m a current subscriber to either of those blogs, am I now a subscriber to the new Caleb Jones blog?
No. I’m not even sure that would be legal or appropriate. You’ll have to go there and subscribe if you want that content, even if you’re already subscribed here or at SYT.
Is there any way to subscribe to all three blogs at once?
Nope. Sorry. I’ve got to keep some level of topic separation. That’s sort of the point here.
Aw, man! Do I really have to subscribe to three different blogs if I want all your stuff now?
Yes. But you’re going to get triple the amount of content from me for now on. I’d say that’s a small price to pay. Subscribe to all three and then sit back and enjoy the high quality free content. You’re welcome. Now quit yer bitchin’.
When is the next Blackdragon Retreat?
Unless something unusual happens, I am not doing a Blackdragon Retreat in the United States in 2014. The next one of those I will be doing in Melbourne, Australia, either in late in 2014 or in 2015. Marketing the Alpha Male book is going to be consuming most of my Blackdragon time.
What I might be doing instead is much less expensive, two-hour seminars in various cities in the US, as my schedule allows. (As opposed to the Blackdragon Retreat which is a two-day workshop.) The focus of these seminars will be either online dating or open relationships. I’ll have more specifics on this soon.
You said you would be doing daygame again, but that was forever ago and you never did it. Are you still planning on doing this?
YES. I’ve been wanting to play around with daygame for quite a while now but I haven’t had the time. Now that my weight has dropped down to a more manageable level and now that I have completed some big business projects, in 2014 I will be dipping my toe (or perhaps a foot or a leg) into daygame again. It will be the first time I’ve done concentrated daygame in six years(!). I’m sure I’ll be a little rusty but I’ll be reporting everything that happens on this blog. Stay tuned.
I would like to coach with you but last time I looked at your coaching site it was too expensive.
Look at it again here. Enough guys told me that, so I’ve completely re-oriented how I do dating and relationship coaching so that it’s much less expensive for you and less time-consuming for me. Check it out here. If you’re instead looking for business coaching, go here.
Will you be doing another online dating profile contest with the female judges?
YES. We’re in the planning stages of that right now. This time we’ll have three different age ranges of judges so you can submit up to three different profiles, one for each age group. More on this soon.
